    • Survey of The New Testament
  2. The Acts

    Slide 4 - The Acts

    • This book traces the development of the New Testament church from the day of Pentecost until the recorded end of Paul’s ministry. This book, written by Luke, is an “historical” account of Christianity with a special emphasis on the apostle Paul and his missionary journeys.
  3. Also written by Luke the book of Acts is the historical account of the growth of the early church. Included in this book is the account of the day of Pentecost, the establishment of the church of Christ, and how the church spread by evangelism and persecution. In this book we are introduced to first Peter, preacher to the Jews, and then to Paul, formally Saul of Tarsus, who became the preacher to the Gentiles. Paul’s missionary journeys are outlined in this book by Luke the historian as he traveled with Paul. The book ends with Paul imprisoned in Rome. Acts provides the background of the Epistles which constituted the major part of the rest of the New Testament. Many of the events in Acts directly correspond to the Epistles. Also called the book of conversions for it emphasizes salvation written 64 AD.

    • 45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.
  17. Acts 1 and 2

    Slide 19 - Acts 1 and 2

    • 46 Then He said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise* from the dead the third day,
    • 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
    • 48 And you are witnesses of these things.
    • 49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem* until you are endued with power from on high."
  18. Acts 1 and 2

    Slide 20 - Acts 1 and 2

    • The Ascension
    • (Mark 16:19,20; Acts 1:9)
    • 50 And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them.
    • 51 Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven.
    • 52 And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy,
    • 53 and were continually in the temple praising and* blessing God. Amen.*
  19. Acts 1:1-10

    Slide 21 - Acts 1:1-10

    • 1 The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,
    • 2 until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen,
    • 3 to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.
  20. The Holy Spirit Promised

Slide 22 - The Holy Spirit Promised

    • 4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me;
    • 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."
    • 6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, "Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?"
  21. 7 And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.

Slide 23 - 7 And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.

    • 8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me* in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." Jesus Ascends to Heaven (Mark 16:19,20; Luke 24:50-53)
    • 9 Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.
  22. Acts 2:1-4 Coming of the Holy Spirit

Slide 24 - Acts 2:1-4 Coming of the Holy Spirit

    • When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord* in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
    • 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.
    • 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
  23. Only the Apostles Received . . .

    Slide 25 - Only the Apostles Received . . .

    • Acts 2:14
    • 14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, "Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words.
    • Acts 2:43
    • Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.
  24. The House of Cornelius

Slide 26 - The House of Cornelius

    • Acts 10:44-48
    • 44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word.
    • 45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.
    • 46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.
    • Then Peter answered,
    • 47 "Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?"
    • 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.
  25. Peter tells what he saw . . .

    Slide 27 - Peter tells what he saw . . .

    • Acts 11:15-18
    • 15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at THE BEGINNING. 16 Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, 'John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.' 17 If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?"
    • 18 When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, "Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life."
  26. Acts is part of the foundation . . .

    Slide 28 - Acts is part of the foundation . . .
