  4. #1 - Genesis 6:1-7

    Slide 4 - #1 - Genesis 6:1-7

    • And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
    • 2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
    • 3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
    • 4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
    • 5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
    • 6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
    • 7 And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
  5. #2 - Job 1:1-6;

    Slide 5 - #2 - Job 1:1-6;

    • Job 1 King James Version (KJV)
    • 1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.
    • 2 And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.
    • 3 His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.
    • 4 And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.
    • 5 And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.
    • 6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them.
  6. #3 - Job 38:1-11

    Slide 6 - #3 - Job 38:1-11

    • Job 38 King James Version (KJV)
    • 38 Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
    • 2 Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
    • 3 Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.
    • 4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
    • 5 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
    • 6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
    • 7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
    • 8 Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?
    • 9 When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,
    • 10 And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,
    • 11 And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?
  7. Descriptive Language - Job 38:4-6

    Slide 7 - Descriptive Language - Job 38:4-6

    • 4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
    • 5 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
    • 6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
    • These are questions no man can answer
  8. Example: Metaphors

    Slide 8 - Example: Metaphors

    • Read 38:8 – Does the sea have doors?
    • 8 Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?
    • Read 38:35 – Does Lightning talk?
    • Canst thou send lightning, that they may go and say unto thee, Here we are?
    • James 1:17 – Is God the Father of the luminaries?
    • Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. (Father of the Stars)
    • The Heavenly luminaries, a celestial body, such as the Sun and Moon
    • Psalms 148:3 – Can the Celestial body praise God?
    • Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light.
    • Psalms 65:13 – Does and Valley and Animals shout and sing?
    • The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn; they shout for joy, they also sing.
    • So it is fair to say that; The Morning Stars, and the Moon and the Sun are also the “Sons of God”
  9. Angels were never called the “Son’s of God”

Slide 9 - Angels were never called the “Son’s of God”

    • Hebrews 1:5 - For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
    • He never called any angel his son.
  10. They presented themselves before the Lord

Slide 10 - They presented themselves before the Lord

    • Job 2:1,2
    • Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord. 2 And the Lord said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
    • Joshua 24:1
    • And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.
    • They presented themselves here on earth before the Lord, not in heaven. Even though Job had already lost his sons, this scripture is talking about Job and the sons of the east.
  11. God communed with his people

Slide 11 - God communed with his people

    • Genesis 3:9, 10
    • And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
  12. The Birth of Seth

Slide 12 - The Birth of Seth

    • Genesis 4:25, 26
    • And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
    • 26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.
  13. The descendants of Seth

Slide 13 - The descendants of Seth

    • the “sons of God” refers to the descendents of Seth, while the “daughters of men” refers to the descendents of Cain. In other words, the righteous line of Seth intermarried with the unrighteous line of Cain resulting in the corruption of society.
    • First, several statements in Genesis about Seth’s descendants indicate that “sons of God” applies to them:
    • they “began to call upon the name of the Lord” (4:26),
    • “walked with God” (5:24), and
    • “found favor in the eyes of the Lord” (6:8).
    • Second, Genesis 5:1–3 restates that Adam was created in God’s image and that Seth was begotten in Adam’s image. The implication is that the line of Adam through Seth constitutes the sons of God.
  14. The descendants of Cain

Slide 14 - The descendants of Cain

    • Third, the line of Cain is pictured in exactly the opposite light. Cain is driven out from the presence of God. Lamech, a descendent of Cain, takes two wives, contrary to the standard established in the garden. When Cain murders his brother, God confronts him with his deed; yet, when Lamech commits murder, the absence of God is painfully obvious. Cain laments that his punishment is too great to bear, but Lamech boasts that he is able to take care of himself — he doesn’t need God’s protection. The primary characterization of Cain’s line is that they were becoming increasingly separated from God.
    • Fourth, the writer of Genesis states that the sons of God saw that the daughters of humankind were “beautiful” (Heb. tob). This connects the daughters of humankind in 6:2 with chapter 4. There, in the genealogy of Cain, the sons of Lamech are named and something is said about each one’s impact on society; for example, Tubal-cain was the forger of all implements of bronze and iron. Tubal-cain’s sister, Naamah, is named, but nothing is said about her. This should make the reader wonder why she was mentioned at all, especially since women were viewed as lower-class citizens. Interestingly, her name means “beautiful.” This is not the same word used in 6:2, but we have already seen that passages do not need to use the same terms to be parallel.
    • The Women that came from the lineage of Cain were the daughters of men. (1 John 3:10-12)
    • 10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. 11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. 12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous
    • These are the children of men Genesis 4:1
    • There was 1500 years from Cain unto the Flood.
    • Seth’s chosen line were the “sons of God” and Cain’s chosen line were the daughter’s of men.
  15. Adam chosen line - Luke 3:23-38

    • If Adam was called the son of God, It would make all of his descendants the sons of God.
  17. God only has one Begotten Son

Slide 17 - God only has one Begotten Son

    • For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
  18. We are now sons by the New Birth

Slide 18 - We are now sons by the New Birth

    • 28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
    • 29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
  19. Other Bible References

Slide 19 - Other Bible References

    • In Hosea 2:1 we find the following description of the sons of Israel: You are the sons of the living God. Here the phrase sons of God definitely refers to humans, not angels. Deuteronomy 14:1 reads You are the sons of the Lord your God. Again another reference of the sons of God to humans. God also calls Israel His son. When Israel was a youth I loved him and out of Egypt I called My son (Hosea 11:1). Isaiah 43:6 The Lord, speaking of Israel says to the north, Bring My sons from afar.
  20. Today we are called the sons of God

Slide 20 - Today we are called the sons of God

    • John 1:12-14
    •  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
    • 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
    • 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
  21. God pronounce judgement on the world because of the Son of God (not Angels) began to mingle with the Daughters of Men (The World)

Slide 21 - God pronounce judgement on the world because of the Son of God (not Angels) began to mingle with the Daughters of Men (The World)

    • Genesis 6:1-3
    • And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
    • 2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
    • And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
  22. Intermingle Marriage begins

Slide 22 - Intermingle Marriage begins

    • Seth’s chosen line were the “sons of God” and Cain’s chosen line were the daughter’s of men.
    • Adams (Seth) chosen line began to desire the women from Cain’s line and they began to intermingle and marry them.
  23. Intermingle marriage was forbidden

Slide 23 - Intermingle marriage was forbidden

    • Deuteronomy 7:1-4
    • When the Lord thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;
    • 2 And when the Lord thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:
    • 3 Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.
    • 4 For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the Lord be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.
