    • When the document camera is working, it is a very valuable resource.
    • When it is not working correctly, it can be frustrating as the document camera is very finicky. The next few slides cover some general troubleshooting tips.

    • Check all the connectors again as shown in the manual.
    • Check the on/off switch of the display output device.
    • Verify the setting of the display output device.
    • If you are presenting from a notebook or computer through the display output device, check the cable connection from computer RGB (VGA) output to RGB input of AverVision M50 and make sure AverVision M50 is in PC Mode.

    • The unit POWER button turns orange in standby mode. Press the POWER button again to turn on and the LED light will turn blue.
    • The default camera resolution setting is on 1024x768. If your output device does not support this resolution, an image cannot be projected. Simply press and hold the FREEZE and button to change the resolution setting.
    • If your display output device is on the TV or any analog device, switch the TV-RGB dip switch to TV.

    • Reset all changed settings, if any, to the original manufacturer default setting. Press DEFAULT on the remote or select Default in Basic tab OSD menu.
    • Use the Brightness and Contrast menu functions to reduce distortion if possible.
    • If you discover that the image is blurry or out of focus, press the Auto Focus button on the control panel or remote control.

    • Check all the cable connections among the display device, AVerVision M50 and your PC.
    • Connect your PC to the AverVision M50 first before you power on your computer.
    • For a laptop, repeatedly press FN + F5 to toggle between display modes and display the computer image on the presentation screen. (If this command does not work for your laptop, please refer to the manual that came with your computer.)

    • Many ABE Instructors have felt frustrated with the document camera but agree that when working properly, it makes a significant contribution to the ABE classroom.
    • As mentioned before, the document camera can be finicky. If you have tried everything listed in this guide and still cannot get your document camera to work, you will first want to switch out your connector cable just to make sure that it is not the culprit. After checking your cable, you should try turning the software on first and then the document camera, if that does not work, try the process backwards by turning on the document camera first and then the software. Restart your computer in between.

    • Ensure the P2V software from the CD-ROM is installed and running.
    • Unplug the camera, exit the software, restart the software, and replug the camera.

    • Access the Advanced Settings, and click No on “Keep Camera Mode Settings.”

    • 1. Adjust the exposure.
    • Ziggi
    • Change the exposure in the room – This could include using a desk lamp near the Ziggi to shine additional light on the subject, turning on room lights, opening or closing curtains, etc.
    • Change the EXP (Exposure Value): If your image is too dark, consider increasing the EXP. Or, if your image is too bright, decrease the EXP. The EXP may be changed on either the camera body itself or via the software.
    • Camera body: Use the EXP +/- toggle for on-the-fly exposure adjustments. The software will briefly indicate the change with an EXP number at the bottom of the image capture window, and your exposure will instantly change.
    • Software: Click on the Exposure tab. You may either click on areas within the grayscale bar to change EXP, or drag the pointer to a value. Hitting “Default” will bring the exposure back to the default value of 4.

    • Press the FOCUS button to bring the subject into sharp focus. See page 19 in the User Manual for more detailed information if needed.

    • Decrease resolution so that the frame rate increases for smoother movement.
    • To change resolution, click on the Resolution tab in Camera mode. There are six different resolutions to choose from, ranging from 1600 x 1200 pixels (the highest resolution) to 320 x 240 pixels (the lowest resolution). As 1280 x 720 resolution (and above) is commonly accepted to be “high-definition” (HD), the top two resolutions—1600 x 1200 and 1280 x 1024—are HD resolutions, while the four lower resolutions are standard-definition (SD) resolutions.

    • Hit the Focus button to achieve sharp focus.
    • Turn the Timer on so that camera shake does not contribute to a blurry image

    • Model writing skills, editing, revising
    • Worksheets such as study guides or daily assignments. Can be filled out as a classroom activity.
    • Complete graphic organizers as a whole class
    • Display textbooks
    • Reference books
    • Math manipulatives such as rulers, compass, algebra tiles, geometric figures
    • Model how to use a calculator
    • Graph paper
    • Model setting up and steps for solving math problems
    • Science experiments

    • Save images for later use. A classroom document camera connected to a computer can act as a scanner. Teachers can place items under the document camera and use them in class that day and "save" the image for future use.
    • Save an image of what you did in class on the document camera to place on classroom websites. Parents can "see" what their children are learning throughout the day.
    • Saved images can also be incorporated into PowerPoint Presentations and Windows Movie Maker.
